BNP nominated candidate for Bogura-4 (Kahaloo-Nondigram) Md Mosharraf Hossain has been accused of forging an undergraduate certificate.

On Thursday afternoon, following a hearing, a Natore Court judge assigned the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case, according to Masud Rana, lawyer for the plaintiff.

The case was filed by Masud Ali of Singra Upazila. Mosharraf has denied the allegations.

According to the complaint, Masud was a BSS student under the National University in the 1993-94 academic year, bearing registration number 212493 and exam roll 136869. He sat for the exam once, failed, and did not retake it.

The case alleges that Mosharraf “fraudulently” used Masud Ali’s roll and registration numbers to obtain a bachelor’s degree certificate for the same academic year.

On Dec 24, 2024, Mosharraf reportedly presented that certificate to secure appointment as chairman of the governing body of Bogura Azizul Haque Memorial Degree College.

When the former chairman challenged this, Masud learned that the academic credentials used by Mosharraf were his.

Masud fears Mosharraf may use his roll and registration details to commit “serious wrongdoing”, causing him “irreparable damage”.

He said, “I am just a farmer. He forged my roll and registration numbers to make a fake certificate, so I filed the case. I’m not concerned with who he is or what he does.”

Natore PBI Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md Mahfuzul Islam said they had not received the court order as of Friday evening.

“Once we receive it, we will investigate and submit a report to the court promptly,” he said.

Contacted for comment, Mosharraf told bdnews24.com: “This is completely fabricated and baseless. I collected my certificate from the National University on the 28th of May this year. I have every original document, from my registration card to all certificates.”

“This false case has been filed by my rivals and those denied party nomination to tarnish my reputation,” he added.
