A long-term political roadmap and the fate of the nation will be determined in the next few weeks, says Mahi B Chowdhury, the son of late president AQM Badruddoza.

Mahi’s comment came in a post on his Facebook page on Friday.

A spokesman for Bikalpa Dhara, Bangladesh, Mahi solicited blessings from everyone for the quick recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the beginning of his post.

Two old photos of BNP founder former president Ziaur Rahman and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been added to the post.

Praising BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for his commitment of “Shobar agey Bangladesh” or “Bangladesh first”, Mahi wrote in his post: ‘‘The promise uttered by Tarique Rahman – Bangladesh first – is not only a political slogan; it is the continuation of our national history and accountability.”

‘‘In 1971, a young major Zia didn’t think about his family, small children or personal security– rather he chose the country. His declaration of independence standing in the middle of life and death drafted the future for a nation. Today, Bangladesh stands again at a historic moment. A long-term political roadmap and the fate of the nation will be determined in the next few weeks.”

Commenting on the change in the political scenario in 1975, Mahi wrote, “In 1975, people and soldiers brought Ziaur Rahman to the centre of a fatal political test. There, he was not an army officer, husband or father—he emerged as a patriotic leader, who guided a devastated nation with his courage, wisdom and sense of responsibility. That decision of his gave the future of Bangladesh a new look.”

“Today, history sees his son standing at the same point.”

In Mahi’s words, “Now he (Tarique) needs to rise above personal identity, emotion and relationships and perform the duties of a national leader. He has to prove it in work–not in words.”

“Bangladesh first.”

Regarding differences of opinion, Mahi said: “Some gaps have been created between us due to political reasons– everyone knows about it. This should not be discussed here. However, there’s only one expectation at this critical time for the nation -- just as his father made a firm decision to save the nation at that most difficult moment, may he, too, respond to the call of history by serving the best interest of the country above all.”

‘‘Today, Bangladesh waits for leadership, courage and authentic patriotism.”

Mahi prayed, “May Allah protect our country. Bangladesh first.”
