Tarique Rahman has instructed party activists and supporters to maintain a vigil at polling stations until the counting of ballots is completed.

The BNP chairman issued the directives during an election rally in Cumilla’s Chauddagram on Sunday.

Addressing the crowd, he said: “On election day, head to your respective polling stations after offering Tahajjud prayers. Gather there and perform the Fazr prayers in congregation. Once the prayers are finished, take your positions directly outside the polling centres.”

He continued: “Since you are voting for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’, you must ensure no one can hatch any conspiracies.

“Guard the polling stations until the very end; you must watch over the ballot boxes and the centres so that no one can manipulate the results or interfere with the process.”

The rally was held at the Chauddagram central playground, where supporters began gathering in small processions from the afternoon.

In the Cumilla-11 (Chauddagram) constituency, Kamrul Huda is contesting as the BNP candidate, while Jamaat-e-Islami deputy chief Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher is also in the fray.

Outlining his vision, Tarique said: “If we form the government, we intend to successfully implement our party’s plans.

“The BNP has governed this country several times. In the current landscape, the BNP is the only political party that possesses the necessary experience of statecraft.”

“Only the BNP knows how to take a policy and implement it effectively and systematically,” he added.
