Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) have arrested former member of parliament Sabina Akter Tuhin, who was elected for the seat reserved for women in the 10th national election in 2014.
DB Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan said she was arrested from her home in Dhaka's Nawabganj early on Monday.
However, he did not say immediately specify which case the former MP was arrested in connection with.
Sabina was sworn in as the parliamentarian for the seat 35 reserved for women in March 2014 for the first time.
In the 11th general election, the Jubo Mohila League leader sought but failed to bag the Awami League nomination for the Dhaka-14 constituency. Later, she was unsuccessful in becoming an MP for the seats reserved for women.
Sabina again failed to grab the Awami League ticket to contest the 12th general election.
Last year, Jubo League leader Moinul Hossain Khan won the Dhaka-14 constituency comprised of Dhaka North City Corporation's wards No. 7,8,9,10, 11 and 12 and Savar Upazila's Kaundia Union as an Awami League nominee.
Sabina contested the same constituency as an independent candidate. She went into hiding after the fall of the Awami League government. The DB arrested her from her ancestral home.
A video that went viral on Facebook during Sabina's arrest shows locals blocking the police from arresting her. They surrounded the leader and requested police not to arrest her. It was Sabina who requested her supporters not to cause any hindrance to the police and leave the area.
