Awami League will be made ‘irrelevant’ with proclamation of July Revolution, says Hasnat

The Anti-discrimination Student Movement Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah has said the ousted Awami League will be declared “irrelevant” like the Nazi forces through the proclamation of the July Revolution.

He announced plans to "write the obituary" of the 1972 Constitution, describing it as a "Mujibist" Constitution.

Speaking at an urgent press conference at the movement’s central office in Dhaka's Banglamotor on Sunday, the student leader revealed that the draft of the proclamation has already been sent to different political parties.

He confirmed that the full declaration would be presented on Dec 31, with the participation of all parties.

Hasnat remarked that the proclamation should have been made earlier.

"To realise the hopes and aspirations that people fought for and brought about the fall of fascism, the July Proclamation—a declaration for the future of Bangladesh—will be presented on the 31st of December under the banner of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement," he said.

The movement leader said, “This proclamation will outline what kind of Bangladesh the people desire, and what the future Bangladesh will look like.

“It will highlight the people's right to vote and their other rights."

On Saturday evening, leaders of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, a group formed by the movement and its supporters, posted on Facebook about the Dec 31 event.

These posts hinted at a gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar on that day, where the July Revolution’s declaration is expected to be presented.

Media reports also indicated that the proclamation would be presented on the same day.
