As part of its ongoing effort to “pressure” the government into holding national polls in December, the BNP held separate meetings on Wednesday with leaders of Gono Forum and the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM).
The meetings took place at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan, where senior leaders Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Barkat Ullah Bulu met with Gono Forum presidium member Subrata Chowdhury and NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj.
“We’re discussing the election with our allies,” Khosru said. “Everyone agrees that the government must be formed through fair elections to represent the people of the country.”
He added that the parties have already submitted reform proposals to the Consensus Commission, and the commission should now publicly disclose topics of agreement to avoid confusion among the public.
Since raising demands for national elections after the Awami League government fell, BNP has been in talks with various allies as part of a joint movement.
Discussions began on Apr 17, following an allegedly unsatisfactory meeting with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus the day before.
