CPB calls for resignation of ‘party-affiliated figures’ from interim government

The party says it will contest all 300 seats in the election along with the left alliance

The Communist Party of Bangladesh has called for the immediate reconstitution of the interim government into a “fully non-partisan form”, urging the resignation of all “party-affiliated” figures holding positions in it.

At a meeting of its central committee on Saturday, the party said the move was “essential” to ensure a free, and fair national election.

The CPB also announced that it and the left alliance, comprising leftist, democratic, and progressive parties, organisations, and individuals, will contest all 300 seats in the parliamentary polls.

The party added that it will carry out organisational work and robust political activity to achieve this goal.

According to a media statement issued following the three-day meeting, the CPB said: “To create a proper environment for the national election, all advisors, patrons, and persons known for their political affiliation -- including those associated with any newly formed political party -- must resign from the interim government.”

The CPB reiterated that there can be no compromise on the four fundamental principles enshrined in the Constitution or on the Declaration of Independence, which it described as the foundation of the state.

The statement said the interim government has “no mandate” to hold a referendum or issue a constitutional order on disputed matters during the National Consensus Commission’s talks.

The meeting also condemned what it described as attempts by the interim government to lease three terminals of Chattogram Port to foreign entities, calling it part of a broader plan to “serve the interests of imperialist and regional hegemonic powers”.

The party vowed to resist any effort to turn Bangladesh into “a proxy battleground for foreign powers” and said it would launch a “comprehensive struggle” against such attempts.
