Meghmallar Bosu has been moved out of the intensive care unit and transferred to a general ward as his condition improves, according to fellow activists.
The former president of a faction of the Dhaka University unit of the Bangladesh Students’ Union and a central council member of National People’s Action is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
NPA Central Council Member Secretary Sajib Tanvir said Meghmallar showed signs of improvement and was transferred to the ward on Saturday.
“Meghmallar is currently under close medical observation and is feeling much better than before. Doctors have advised complete rest and keeping him stress-free,” he said.
Sajib said arrangements were under way to move him from the ward to a private cabin as soon as possible.
He also requested that details of the ward be kept undisclosed to protect Meghmallar’s privacy and allow uninterrupted treatment.
Sajib is coordinating with the hospital over his treatment.
Meghmallar was found unconscious near Ramna Gate in Suhrawardy Udyan late on Monday and taken to hospital. Doctors washed his stomach over suspected poisoning.
He was initially treated in bed 3 of room 602 before being moved to the fourth-floor ICU on Tuesday after his condition deteriorated.
His condition worsened on Wednesday and he was placed on life support.
By Thursday night, doctors reported that his condition had stabilised, allowing them to reduce his oxygen support. A seven-member medical board was also formed to oversee his treatment.
Meghmallar regained consciousness shortly after noon on Friday, according to Sajib.
Sajib said later that night that oxygen support had been withdrawn entirely after Meghmallar began breathing on his own.
