Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman has assured that if given the chance to form a government, the 10-party alliance will guarantee women’s safety and dignity at home and outside.

Speaking at a rally organised by the alliance in Sirajganj on Saturday, he said, while women already work in society, two things are severely lacking: security and respect.

“God willing, if we have the opportunity to run this country, mothers will be fully ensured safety and dignity at home, in public spaces, and in the workplace,” he said.

“The Prophet (peace be upon him) took our mothers and sisters to every battle as warriors. There is no task under the sky or on the earth harder than that.

“If mothers can play a role in such challenges, there is no sphere in society where they cannot contribute.”

Shafiqur emphasised the supreme value of a mother’s honour, saying: “We believe the dignity of our mothers outweighs even our lives. No one has shown the respect it deserves.

“Yet, those who speak loudly are often the ones whose hands harm our mothers, sisters, and daughters. Every day brings grim proof of this, yet they criticise us.”

He further highlighted the societal role of women: “Just as a family is built on the partnership of men and women, so too is a nation and society founded on the cooperation of both.”

Addressing rumours and fears about Jamaat’s rule, he said: “Some warn that if this 10-party alliance, especially Jamaat-e-Islami, comes to power, they will lock homes, restrict women’s movement, education, and professional duties.

“These are the words of deceivers.”
