Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain says that the condition of BNP leader Mirza Abbas has improved during his treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
On Monday, he said: “I have spoken to the doctors. They say they are seeing positive signs on different parameters. His condition is improving, Alhamdullilah.”
“It is a matter of the brain. It will take a little time. I ask everyone to pray for him.”
Abbas, the political advisor to the prime minister, was taken to Singapore from Dhaka via air ambulance on Mar 15.
Mizanur Rahman Sohel, private secretary to Abbas, said from Singapore: “The doctors sat him on a chair from his bed around 10am. This is a positive sign. He can speak slowly. His treatment is ongoing under the close observation of doctors.”
“Please pray for him. His family has asked for the people of the country to pray for him.”
Abbas’s wife Afroza Abbas and son Yasir Abbas are constantly by his side at the hospital, Sohel said.
Abbas underwent brain surgery on Mar 13 at the advice of a medical board of specialists at Evercare Hospital. After nearly three hours of surgery, he spent two days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Then he was taken to Singapore.
The BNP leader was hospitalized at Evercare on Mar 11 while falling sick and fainting during Iftar.
