BNP’s Mirza Fakhrul hopes women MPs play proper role in parliament

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is expressing hope that reserved women members of parliament will play their due role in parliament.

The BNP secretary general and local government minister expressed the hope to reporters after BNP members of parliament for the reserved women's seats laid wreaths at the graves of party founder Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Monday afternoon.

He said, "We visited the graves of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia along with our women members who were elected to parliament from the reserved seats. We, on behalf of the party and on behalf of the parliament, Chief Whip Mr Nurul Islam Moni, also came with them [reserved women members] and supported them."

"We hope that they will play their role properly in parliament."

Earlier, at 1pm, Fakhrul laid a wreath at the grave of late president Zia along with the female parliamentarians.

Of the 50 reserved women’s seats in parliament, 36 have gone to BNP members.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath to the 36 newly elected women parliamentarians at the parliament building on Sunday night.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul, National Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul and other whips were also in attendance.
