Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the people of Bangladesh to have faith in the BNP government’s commitment to development.
The prime minister made the call while addressing a rally at his first programme in Pakundia after arriving in Kishoreganj on Sunday.
He said, “The government was formed with the people’s support. You placed your trust in the BNP through that support. I want to make it clear: In Sha Allah, keep your faith in us. The BNP has been with you, the BNP stands by the people of Bangladesh, and the BNP will remain with the people of Bangladesh.”
“The BNP will work for the people of Bangladesh. As long as the BNP exists, In Sha Allah, it will do nothing against the interests of the country and its people.”
After arriving in Pakundia, the prime minister released fish fry into the Brahmaputra River at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari jetty area. Later, when he took the stage at the rally venue, thousands of party leaders and activists welcomed him with applause.
‘Stay Alert Regarding Those Creating Unrest’
The prime minister said, “A number of people are trying to create unrest on the streets. If disorder is created on the streets, ordinary people suffer the most. Their businesses are affected, their jobs are affected, and their livelihoods are disrupted. But those who create disorder are the ones who benefit.”
“Today, let us take an oath, let us pledge that those who work against the interests of the country, those who create disorder, and those who obstruct different programmes taken in the interests of the people will be resisted by the people. The people of the country now want peace, they want the rule of law, they want employment, they want education for their children, and they want healthcare for their families. If we are to accomplish these things, we must remain patient. At the same time, we must remain vigilant about those who are creating disorder.”
The prime minister said, “Our goal is to build a welfare state in the future, a state focused on the wellbeing of its people. That is why we are taking different initiatives. We have launched programmes, including the Family Card, which I have already outlined before you.”
“Here, thousands of you have shown your support and said that if these plans are implemented, people will benefit. Isn’t that so? Exactly. I want to request you to maintain the confidence you placed in us through your support in the Feb 12 election.”
MP Fazlur Rahman and other leaders were present at the programme.
After completing his programme in Pakundia, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the Katiadi Card Hatchery Complex.
From there, he will formally inaugurate National Fisheries Week 2026 and distribute the National Fisheries Awards at the Achmita George Institute premises in the afternoon.
The prime minister’s other two programmes are a tree-planting event at Sholakia Ground and a Family Card distribution programme at Kishoreganj Stadium.
