The Election Commission has declared the nominations of former state minister Lutfozzaman Babar and his wife Tahmina Zaman Sraboni valid.

The couple has now entered the election race for the Netrokona-4 constituency, which covers Mohanganj, Madan, and Khaliajuri.

Tahmina is running as an independent candidate, while Babar is vying for the seat on a BNP ticket.

Tahmina had previously contested in this constituency in 2018 and secured a significant number of votes.

At the same time, the nomination papers of BNP candidate Barrister Kaiser Kamal in the Netrokona-1 constituency, comprising Durgapur and Kalmakanda, has also been declared valid.

District Returning Officer Saifur Rahman conducted the scrutiny at the conference room of the deputy commissioner, in the presence of the candidates, their supporters, and proposers, on Saturday.

The scrutiny cleared 20 of the 30 nomination papers submitted.

Saifur Rahman said five candidates were declared invalid due to incorrect or missing information relating to the candidates' income tax and cases filed against them.

He said another five nominations had minor documentation issues, and the candidates were given time until 2pm on Sunday to submit the required papers.

In the Netrokona-3 constituency, the candidacies of BNP candidate and district committee general secretary Rafiqul Islam Hilali, and independent candidate and former district BNP vice-president Delwar Hossain Bhuiyan Dulal, have been declared valid.

In the Netrokona-4 constituency, the nomination papers of five candidates, including Communist Party of Bangladesh’s Presidium member Jolly Talukder, have been suspended.

In the Netrokona-2 constituency, the candidacies of five candidates, including Khelafat Andolon's Abdur Rahim, have been declared cancelled.
