Zonayed Saki is set to step down from his role as the chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, the party confirmed.
On Friday, the party called a media briefing at its central office in Hatirpool on Saturday to officially announce its new leader, said Bachchu Bhuiyan, a member of the party’s central executive committee.
"The chief coordinator is leaving his post. Who will take over the helm will be known [on Saturday]," he said.
Saki, along with Executive Coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel and political council members including Taslima Akhter and Firoz Ahmed, is expected to attend the briefing.
Ganosamhati Andolon began its journey on Aug 29, 2002.
It formally launched as a political party during its third national representative conference in November 2016.
At that time, Saki was appointed chief coordinator, a position he has held since.
The party secured official registration from the Election Commission on Sept 17, 2024, following a lengthy legal process.
Saki contested from the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency as an ally of the BNP-led coalition in the general election held on Feb 12.
Running with the party symbol “Mathal” he was elected as a member of parliament.
Following the formation of the BNP-led government, Saki was appointed as the state minister for finance and planning.
He was later reassigned to serve solely as the planning state minister.
