National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has said “three blocs” are emerging in the current political landscape.
He announced that a new bloc is coming under the leadership of the NCP, which will be the “largest alliance”, comprising young people.
He also confirmed the rumours about the NCP merging with Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP).
The NCP leader answered questions from journalists after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission headquarters on Monday.
He claimed that the NCP, which is seeking registration, will secure 150 seats in future elections using the Shapla (water lily) symbol.
The chief coordinator said, "There are going to be three blocs in the political arena: an Islamic bloc by Jamaat has already been established, a bloc is being formed by the BNP, and another is under our leadership."
He said the NCP is not joining the BNP and Jamaat alliances, saying: "We are independent."
He added that they will work together with young people under the NCP banner and promote their progress in the media.
When asked if Gono Odhikar Parishad is merging with the NCP, Nasiruddin Patwary replied: "Yes”.
He said, "Discussions are ongoing; we have reached an agreement. The process of how they will join is a matter of policy.
“We have made our standpoint clear. This is not about seats or entitlements, but about an ideological struggle."
