The Jamaat-e-Islami-led “11-Party Alliance” has announced a new programme to push for several demands, including the implementation of the “people's verdict” in the July National Charter referendum.

As part of this, the parties will hold rallies in divisional cities between May 16 and Jul 25.

Coalition coordinator Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programme to the media after a meeting at Jamaat's central office in Dhaka’s Moghbazar on Thursday afternoon.

Divisional rallies of the 11-party alliance will be held in Rajshahi on May 16, Chattogram on Jun 13, Khulna on Jun 20, Mymensingh on Jun 27, Rangpur on Jul 11, Barishal on Jul 18 and Sylhet on Jul 25.

Azad, also the assistant secretary general for Jamaat, said that city corporations, divisional cities and districts will be involved in these rallies.

In addition to finalising the programme for the divisional rallies, the alliance decided to form a liaison committee at the district level.

Azad said at the press conference that the alliance will exchange views with professionals and civil society members across the country, including in the capital. Finally, a grand rally will be held in Dhaka next October.

Stating that it could not arrange many programmes due to the upcoming Eid al-Azha, he said: "There are programmes every month. However, we cannot organise many programmes before Eid."
