Thirty central leaders of the National Citizen Party have opposed the party’s move to form an alliance or enter a seat-sharing agreement with the eight-party coalition, including Jamaat-e-Islami.

A party leader confirmed the matter.

Rafiqul Islam Aini, organiser of the NCP, told bdnews24.com that a memorandum was submitted to Convenor Nahid Islam on Saturday outlining their objection.

These central members of the political party formed by student leaders who led the July Uprising said in the memorandum, “Jamaat-e-Islami’s political history, especially their anti-independence role during the Liberation War of 1971, their cooperation in the ‘genocide’, and their position on the crimes committed at that time, are fundamentally at odds with the democratic spirit of Bangladesh and the values of the party.”
