The BNP has announced a five-day programme to mark its 48th founding anniversary on Sept 1.

Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a media briefing on Wednesday after a joint meeting at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan.

“The BNP has completed 48 glorious years. Its journey has been marked by many struggles, crises and periods of grief,” Rizvi said.

He said the anniversary would be observed with programmes involving party leaders and activists as well as members of its affiliated organisations.

The BNP flag will be hoisted at 6am on Sept 1 at the party’s central office and offices across the country.

At 9am, BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, where they will offer prayers and place wreaths, Rizvi said.

A discussion will be held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium at 3pm on Sept 5.

Other events will include tree-planting and fish-release programmes.

Rizvi said district and metropolitan BNP units, as well as other party units across the country, would organise separate discussions and other programmes at convenient times in addition to the central events.

The party will also publish posters to mark the anniversary.
