BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had already collected her nomination papers for Bogura-7 (Gabtoli-Shajahanpur) ahead of the February elections.

On Saturday, Morshed Milton, president of Gabtali Upazila BNP, filed his nomination from the same constituency, marking the second nomination in the seat from the party.

Milton’s papers were submitted by party activists, according to Gabtoli Upazila administrator (UNO) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman.

Earlier, on Sunday, Helaluzzaman Talukdar Lalu, advisor to BNP chairperson and former MP, had collected the nomination form on behalf of Khaleda from Bogura Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Toufikur Rahman.

Bogura’s Gabtoli Upazila, the birthplace of the late President Ziaur Rahman, has historically delivered a landslide victory for BNP candidates. This year, the party’s main rival in the seat is Golam Rabbani of the Jamaat-e-Islami.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, Milton said: “I had been nominated before as well. I have filed the nomination on the high command’s instructions. The rest will be decided by the high command.”

Repeated calls to Lalu for comment went unanswered.
