Tangail-8 MP and BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan has taken his oath as a minister. President Md Shahabuddin administered the oath to Azam on Thursday at the parliament.

The swearing in ceremony was conducted during the first session of the 13th parliament.

Ahmed, who has been elected MP for Tangail-8, which consists of Basail and Sakhipur, is a fresh addition to the cabinet.

Earlier in the same day, President Shahabuddin administered the oaths of office to Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal at his office in the Parliament Building after they were elected by the parliament.

As they have been elected speaker and deputy speaker, Hafiz and Kayser can no longer retain their cabinet posts.

In that context, Ahmed Azam Khan has been sworn in as a new minister.
