Former student advisor Mahfuj Alam will not participate in the parliamentary elections, according to a report by BBC Bangla.
Quoting the former information advisor, it reported that he had no desire to leave the interim government; however, he was required to resign to ensure the administration’s "neutrality".
Speaking to BBC Bangla, he said: "I have maintained from the very beginning that I would not be contesting in the election. For this reason, I did not wish to step down from the government.
“The administration, however, felt that the presence of student representatives might lead to questions over neutrality during the election period."
"But as for the election, my decision not to run had been made long ago," he added.
On Dec 10, the day before the election schedule announcement, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Mahfuj announced their resignations.
While Asif said he was resigning to contest in the polls, Mahfuj had remained silent on the matter until now.
