Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish chief Mamunul Haque has demanded that the general election be held under the legal framework of the July Charter, calling it “a matter of life or death”.

Addressing the interim government, he accused the authorities of failing to establish the Charter’s legal foundation despite “sitting in power on the blood of children”.

“You’re preparing to announce the election schedule, redrawing constituencies, yet the state has not implemented the July Charter -- a symbol of honour for the martyrs,” he said.

“There is no room for any alternative. The election in February must take place only after ensuring the legal basis of the Charter.”

Mamunul was speaking at a rally organised by Khelafat Majlish on Friday afternoon, after Jummah prayers, at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The event was part of a mobilisation in support of the party’s five-point charter, including full implementation of the document.

He also posed a political question to the country, asking whether the nation would follow the spirit of 1972 or align with the anti-discrimination ideals of the July Uprising.

He urged all political forces to clarify their positions, saying that those opposing the 2024 movement are “in favour of the BAKSAL-style model of ‘72”.

“We are making our stance clear -- we will build the future of Bangladesh on the foundation the Uprising,” he added.
