The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought information and records related to the recruitment, promotion and transfer of officials and employees at the Ministry of Youth and Sports during the tenure of former advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.

The anti-graft agency has also summoned records concerning the assignment of 38 Upazila youth development officers with additional responsibilities, the cancellation of those assignments and their subsequent transfers.

It sought the information and records in a letter sent to the secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Thursday, a day after it decided to investigate allegations of corruption and irregularities against Asif Mahmud and three others.

ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan told reporters on Thursday, “This is at the inquiry stage. We have sent letters to various offices seeking information for the inquiry.”

The other three individuals are Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Shaikh Mohammad Jobayed Hossain, and Deputy Secretary Md Masum Ahmed.

The letter, signed by ACC deputy director and head of the inquiry team Md Zahid Kalam, asked the ministry to send the requested information and records by Sept 10.

The ACC had announced on Wednesday that it had decided to investigate allegations of various irregularities and corruption against Asif Mahmud and the three others.

Later that night, former advisor Asif Mahmud held a press conference and gave the ACC 24 hours to withdraw its statements regarding the allegations against him.
