A special memorial programme will be held on Sunday in memory of artist Matlub Ali, former dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University.
The event is being organised by Manob Shilpa Sahitya Sanskriti Goshti at the Children’s Museum Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shishu Academy at 5pm on Jan 11, the organisers said in a press statement.
Matlub Ali was a multifaceted cultural figure — a painter, writer, lyricist and art critic — and is widely remembered as the composer of the mass song “Lanchhito Nipirito Jonotar Joy”.
The programme will feature recollections of his life and work, alongside musical performances of songs composed by him.
Eminent cultural personalities expected to attend include artists Bulbon Osman, Abdul Mannan, Khushi Kabir, and Biren Shome; singer Rafiqul Alam; economist and emeritus Prof Dr Nazrul Islam; National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan; Liberation War Museum founder Mofidul Hoque; educationist Kazi Madina; reciter Ashraful Alam; and artist Dilruba Papiya, among others.
Artist and organiser Chitra Sultana will host the programme.
He died of cardiac failure at his Dhaka residence on Nov 4. He was 79.
