Kazi Rofiq, a staff correspondent for the online news portal Dhaka Mail, has died at the age of 29 after suffering a heart attack.

He passed away around 6pm on Friday while receiving treatment at the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka.

His colleague, Mostafa Imrul Kayes, confirmed the news to bdnews24.com.

Mostofa said Rofiq suddenly fell ill shortly before the evening and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Cardiac arrest was identified as the cause of death, he added.

Rofiq was born in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur but his family hailed from Pirganj in Rangpur.

He was the middle child among his siblings. He was married but did not have any children.

He began his journalism career with the online news portal Dhaka Times 24.com in 2017.

In February 2022, he joined Dhaka Mail as a staff correspondent.
