President Murmu says India keen to work closely with Bangladesh to improve ties

She greets the president and the people of Bangladesh on Independence Day

Indian President Droupadi Murmu has extended her greetings and congratulations to Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammed Shahabuddin and the people on Independence Day, emphasising the need to bolster bilateral ties and regional peace.

She conveyed the greetings in a letter sent to Shahabuddin on Wednesday, a day ahead of Independence Day, which is also the National Day of Bangladesh.

The Indian president said, “India looks forward to working closely with Bangladesh to strengthen our bilateral partnership and advance regional peace, stability and prosperity.”

The letter started with greetings to Bangladeshis on their Independence Day.

“On behalf of the government, the people of India and on my own behalf, I extend warm greetings and felicitations to you and to the friendly people of Bangladesh on the occasion of your National Day,” she wrote in the beginning.

According to her, the neighbouring countries are bound by a shared history, deep cultural linkages and enduring linguistic traditions that form the foundation of a close partnership.

“Through the years, we have made significant progress in advancing people-centric development across key sectors, including connectivity, trade, development partnership, power and energy, capacity building and education, delivering tangible benefits to citizens on both sides of the border,” Murmu said.

On the concluding note, Murmu addressed Shahabuddin, saying: “Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my renewed consideration and my best wishes to the government and the people of Bangladesh.”
