India has condemned the reported destruction of a historic Hindu temple in Pakistan's Narowal region, demanding a prompt investigation and full accountability from Islamabad.
The Indian foreign ministry on Wednesday called on Pakistan to conduct a transparent inquiry into the incident and take immediate steps to restore the damaged site, reports The New India Express.
New Delhi also urged Islamabad to fulfil what it called its primary obligation to guarantee the safety and well-being of all minority citizens and their cultural heritage.
"We unequivocally condemn this reprehensible act of vandalism against a century-old minority place of worship," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, describing reports of the temple's destruction in village Siraj, Narowal, as deeply concerning.
He said the "apparent apathy" of Pakistani authorities and their failure to protect the site was alarming, calling the incident a stark reminder of the continuing vulnerability of minority communities and the violation of their religious freedoms in Pakistan.
