The Election Commission (EC) has annulled BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir’s nomination for Chattogram-2 following an appeal by Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate Mohammad Nurul Amin.
On Sunday, a four-member bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasiruddin, ruled Alamgir’s nomination invalid at the Nirbachan Bhaban.
He had contested the seat covering Fatikchhari Upazila.
An appeal against the validation of BNP’s Aslam Chowdhury in Chattogram-4 was rejected, confirming his candidacy.
The general election and referendum are scheduled for Feb 12. With the appeals process now complete, candidates can withdraw their nominations by Jan 20, followed by symbol allocation and the start of campaigning the next day.
