CEC Nasir to swear in MPs, Constitutional Council members

The Secretariat has sent a letter to AMM Nasir Uddin, according to EC secretary

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will administer the oaths to candidates elected in the parliamentary polls.

From 10am on Tuesday, members of parliament and the Constitutional Reform Council will take their oaths in phases before the CEC.

Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed on Monday evening that the Parliament Secretariat had sent a letter specifying the date and timing for the ceremonies.

“Both oaths will be administered by the CEC,” he said.

The swearing-in will take place in the parliament’s Oath Hall, with party-affiliated and independent members swearing in separately.

The BNP, having secured 209 seats, achieved an absolute majority, while former ally the Jamaat-e-Islami, winning 68 seats, will sit in opposition.

Other parties and independents claimed the remaining constituencies.

Following the MPs’ oaths in the morning, the new government’s cabinet will be sworn in at the South Plaza of parliament in the afternoon by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Gazette notifications for 297 elected MPs were issued Friday night after Thursday’s voting.

On Monday, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman opted to retain Dhaka-17 and relinquish Bogura-6, leaving 296 MPs to be sworn in on Tuesday.
