Highlighting the security measures in place for Thursday’s general election, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has reiterated his Election Commission’s commitment to holding peaceful, credible, and participatory polls.
He made the remarks during a briefing for foreign journalists and observers at the InterContinental Dhaka hotel on Wednesday.
“As we approach election day -- which is tomorrow -- I wish to reaffirm the election commission's unwavering commitment to delivering a peaceful, credible and participatory election,” he said.
“Comprehensive security and coordination arrangements are in place with the support of law-enforcing agencies and the government of Bangladesh.”
Nasir and Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah detailed the steps taken by the commission to prepare for the polls to the attending foreign journalists and observers.
The entire election process has been free, fair, impartial and credible, he said. The preparations have progressed through a comprehensive, multifaceted approach that included legal reforms, institutional preparations, stakeholder dialogue, and management planning.
All arrangements for the election are in place, with polling stations finalised after extensive testing, he said. Voting equipment and materials have already been sent to the returning officers in charge of different constituencies and are being dispatched to the polling centres.
