Ballot papers and other election materials are being sent out to polling centres ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and referendum.
The presiding officers in charge of the polling centres are receiving them from the “material distribution” centre since Wednesday morning, the day before the polls.
The work at the Dhaka Residential Model College, the election materials distribution centre for the Dhaka-13 constituency, began around 11:15am.
Assistant Presiding Officer Farhana Bilkis said, "We were ready to distribute election materials from 10am, but the presiding officers had to be informed about everything, including the law enforcement aspect, so it took some time for work to begin."
The presiding officers will prepare and go to their respective centres after they are briefed, she added.
The presiding officers in charge of the centre and law enforcement personnel began arriving at the school in the morning.
On Feb 2, the Election Commission began sending out ballot papers with the names and symbols of the candidates based on the constituency to their returning officers.
Ballot papers and other election materials were also sent step-by-step across the country.
The election materials were stored at the office of the returning officer and are being delivered to polling centres on Wednesday, the day before the election.
A total of 2,028 candidates, including 50 parties and independents, are contesting 299 seats in Thursday’s election.
More than 127.7 million citizens are eligible to vote. Ballots will be cast at 42,958 centres across the country.
Physical voting will be conducted at 42,659 centres. Postal ballots will be counted at 299 centres.
