New York City is buzzing, the mayor is winking and the lobster has arrived.
Taylor Swift's rumoured wedding at Madison Square Garden (MSG) may be closer than anyone expected, the BBC reports.
Since the pop superstar and National Football League (NFL) star Travis Kelce got engaged last summer in the backyard of his Kansas City home, the question on every fan's mind has been the same: when and where is the wedding?
Swift, famous for hiding clues in everything from her wardrobe to her lyrics, has said absolutely nothing.
That has not stopped the rest of the world from doing plenty of talking.
The MSG Theory
What began as tabloid fodder started looking a lot more real when The New York Times reported that permits had been requested for a large event at MSG from Thursday through the weekend, with several blocks of busy Manhattan set to be shut down.
City officials confirmed to the BBC that someone applied for a street closure permit near the 22,000-seat arena over the Jul 4 Independence Day weekend, with roads closing from Jul 2 to Jul 4.
The NYT also said several players from Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs had booked nearby hotel rooms.
The paper stopped short of calling it a wedding, describing it as a celebration that could be related to the couple's nuptials.
The BBC's US media partner CBS News reported that the couple are planning a rehearsal dinner for around 100 people at the arena's Infosys Theater on Thursday, starting around 6pm local time.
A larger celebration for about 1,000 guests is reportedly set for Friday night into Saturday morning, featuring live musical acts and a massive set being constructed inside the arena.
The Clues Keep Piling Up
The deliveries alone have set the internet on fire. Large trucks bearing signs reading "Garden Party" and "GP" have been rolling up to the venue all week.
Crews have been spotted unloading stage equipment, lights, foliage, boxes labelled "branches", a 40-inch mirror ball and a large white staircase railing.
Then came the food, including what appeared to be lobster.
A large red carpet was briefly rolled out on the arena steps on Tuesday before being whisked away just as quickly, sending fans into a frenzy.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed at a news conference on Wednesday that the department was staffing an event at the arena and that intelligence and counter-terrorism divisions had given it the same scrutiny as any major city event.

"We will make sure that we have the appropriate resources based on their assessments for that specific private event," she said.
The Mayor Can’t Help Himself
Even New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been unable to keep a straight face.
He previously noted the city was hosting a World Cup match "the same weekend as Taylor Swift's wedding" and brought it up again at a heat wave briefing on Tuesday.
"If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it's a good example to set for the city at large," he said.
A Leaked Timeline?
CBS has also reported a purported schedule for the celebrations. On Thursday, a rehearsal dinner for around 100 guests is set for the Infosys Theater, running from around 6pm to 10:30pm local time.
Friday is billed as the big day, with doors opening at 3:30pm for a cocktail hour on the arena's 6th floor concourse, normally a food and drinks walkway for sports fans.
A reception is reportedly planned from 6:30pm through to 2am, with guests arriving in around 500 vehicles through a tented VIP area.
Could It All Be a Giant Ruse?
Not everyone is buying it. US media and devoted Swifties have acknowledged the whole setup could be an elaborate decoy, designed to give the couple privacy for their actual wedding elsewhere.
No one has confirmed to the BBC that the wedding is happening at the arena or over Independence Day weekend, and several US outlets have reported the couple may hold a small private ceremony before the larger arena celebrations.
The hype has reached extraordinary levels.
Online prediction market Kalshi says the nuptials have generated more than $4.5 million in wagers, with media coverage likening the whole affair to America's version of a royal wedding.
Where Else Could It Be?
Swift owns homes in New York and Rhode Island and has ties to Kansas City, Pennsylvania and Ohio, all of which have attracted their share of theories.
A Rhode Island venue was rumoured but flatly denied. Paparazzi who swarmed the area in June came up empty.
Her well-known love of Jul 4 and the near three-year anniversary of when she and Kelce reportedly first connected have given the Independence Day weekend theory extra legs.
MSG Has Hosted Weddings Before
MSG would be an unusual venue for a wedding but not an unprecedented one.
Singer Sly Stone married Kathy Silva there in 1974.
In 1982, 2,075 couples tied the knot simultaneously in a Unification Church mass wedding.
The arena also offers some very celebrity-friendly features, including private underground VIP entrances and full control over who can see or photograph the event, a level of privacy that would be near impossible to guarantee outdoors.
Who Might Show Up?
NFL player George Kittle, singer Benson Boone and actress Suki Waterhouse have confirmed they are going but given away nothing.
Longtime friends Selena Gomez and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff are expected, as is childhood friend Abigail Anderson Berard.
Whether actress Blake Lively, now embroiled in a bitter legal battle that drew Swift in, or model Karlie Kloss will make the cut has set the internet ablaze.
Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw have been floated as possible performers, a theory fuelled by Swift turning up at an MSG basketball game in a "Stevie Knicks" T-shirt.
BBC Radio 1 host Greg James, personally invited by Swift during her latest album campaign, could also be in the mix.
Swift and Kelce's representatives have not responded to the BBC's requests for comment.
The couple themselves have said absolutely nothing.
The world, it seems, will just have to wait and see.
