A traditional boat market comes alive every Friday and Monday along the Kuriana Canal in Pirojpur’s Nesarabad. During the monsoon, wooden boats of various shapes and sizes line the canal and its banks. Skilled craftsmen from Nazirpur and Swarupkathi build them from rain tree, chamal, koroi and mahogany. Prices range from Tk 2,000 to Tk 10,000 depending on size and quality, while oars sell for Tk 150 to Tk 700. The market moves more than Tk 100 million worth of boats each session and Tk 1 billion to Tk 1.2 billion over the season.
