Although it is named Dighirpar, the market is actually located on the banks of the Padma River. Jute is bought and sold at the temporary market in Munshiganj’s Tongibari Upazila. Sellers bring jute in motorised boats from different southern districts to sell at the market. Wholesale buyers also wait in boats. Locals say that this market, which has been around for over 100 years, is also known to people from surrounding districts. The market meets every Friday and Monday. In addition to Munshiganj, farmers and traders bring jute from various districts, including Shariatpur, Chandpur, and Faridpur, by trawler.
