Bandarban tunnel falls apart in less than two years

A 500-foot-long tunnel was built to connect the old bus station with the newly constructed central bus terminal in Bandarban town. Less than two years after its inauguration, it has fallen into disrepair. The tunnel lights no longer work, forcing vehicles to pass through with headlights on. Water seeps down the walls, and mud constantly blocks the entrance.

Heavy rain causes soil to collapse at the entrance of the Bandarban Bus Terminal Tunnel, leaving it perpetually muddy. Poor maintenance has left the tunnel in a state of decay. Photo: U She Thowai Marma

Water dripping from the walls of the Bandarban Bus Terminal Tunnel has created potholes, leaving the interior muddy. Both people and vehicles still struggle to pass through it. Photo: U She Thowai Marma
