Gandaria's DIT pond revived

The DIT pond in Old Dhaka's Gandaria was once hemmed in by illegal shops and houses. Around three months ago, the encroachments were cleared and trees were planted along its banks. The pond, which had all but lost its existence under illegal structures, has since regained a renewed appearance. Local residents, too, are pleased to see the pond restored to a cleaner state.

Encroachment had pushed the DIT pond in Gandaria to the brink of disappearing, but an eviction drive by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has cleared the illegal structures from the site. Photo: Abdullah Al Momin
