The Buriganga bank in the Lalbagh and Islampur of Old Dhaka is no longer a riverbank but a vast dumping ground for plastic and other waste. Hundreds of tonnes of waste generated in Dhaka are dumped here every day, choking one of the city’s lifelines. The High Court recently ordered that all waste, including plastic, be removed from the area within 15 days. These drone photographs show the alarming scale of plastic pollution along the Buriganga.
