He made the pitch while speaking at the third international conference of the Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Intervention at a Dhaka hotel on Tuesday.
"Development, which plays no role in the people's welfare or from which the people do not get any benefit because of a lack of capability, cannot be universal," he said.
"So, the development of health sector will have to be based on demand, consistent with the people's capabilities and based on technology," he added.
He urged the people related to the sector to ensure advanced treatment at a low cost for regular people.
The president reminded the doctors of their responsibilities to the people in return for their contribution to the career of a physician.
He urged them to visit patients in rural areas at least once a month.
Hamid stressed the need for more involvement of private entrepreneurs in the sector. "It's not possible for the government alone to ensure medical services for all the people," he observed.
Addressing the cardiovascular disease specialists, he emphasised maintaining health rules, avoiding smoking, physical labour and regular physical exercise.
"Besides medicine and technology, it's very much necessary to know the reasons behind cardiovascular diseases and the ways to prevent them. It will reduce the impact of the diseases to a certain degree," Hamid said.
BSCI President Professor Afzalur Rahman, General Secretary Kaiser Nasrullah Khan, Bangladesh Medical Association President Mahmud Hasan, and General Secretary Iqbal Arslan, among others, spoke at the conference.
