In a renewed effort to combat the spread of Aedes mosquitoes and COVID-19, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a series of measures, including steps to double the volume of insecticide sprayed across its zones.

The decisions came at an emergency meeting on Wednesday at the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) conference room, according to a media DSCC statement.

As part of the new strategy, DSCC will increase the insecticide volume used in fogging machines from 30 litres to 60 litres. The enhanced spraying campaign is set to begin Saturday in a bid to draw “immediate results”, the corporation said.

According to the statement, a dengue monitoring team will also be formed in each DSCC zone responsible for ensuring the presence of mosquito control workers, verifying accurate insecticide usage, conducting field operations, and maintaining cleanliness in their designated areas.

Under the plan, each committee will be headed by a regional executive officer, with an assistant health officer serving as member secretary.

DSCC Assistant Health Officer Faria Foyez has been appointed as the focal for both dengue and COVID-19 prevention activities.

The city corporation also announced that a seminar on dengue control, involving entomologists, will be held at Nagar Bhaban this month.
