Three more children with measles-like symptoms have died in the Sylhet Division in the latest 24- hour report.

Mohammad Noore Alam Shamim, assistant director at the Office of the Director of Health in Sylhet, said the children died with measles symptoms while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The deaths have taken to the total toll of children in the Sylhet Division to 31.

Two of the children died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

They gave been identified as Hafiza Akhter, a two-year-old resident of Kanaighat Upazila, and Raisa Jannat, a one-year-and-five-month-old resident of Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur.

Ariya Jannat, an eight-month-old resident of Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila, died at Sylhet Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed District Hospital.

According to the report of the Office of the Director of Health in Sylhet, 92 new suspected measles patients were admitted to the hospital from 8am on Tuesday to 8am on Wednesday.

Shahid Shamsuddin Hospital saw the most patients with 30.

In addition, 26 people were admitted to Osmani Hospital, 13 to Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, and 3 to Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital. The rest are receiving treatment in various government and private hospitals.

The report said currently, a total of 297 suspected measles patients are admitted to government and private hospitals in the division.

Of them, 110 are at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 50 at Osmani Hospital, 55 at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital, 19 at Moulvibazar District Sadar Hospital, and 15 at Habiganj District Sadar Hospital.

In addition, patients have also been admitted to various Upazila health complexes and private hospitals.

The report said that from Jan 1 of this year to Wednesday, 147 confirmed cases of measles and rubella have been recorded in the Sylhet Division.
