Another two children undergoing treatment at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal with measles symptoms have died over the last 24 hours, taking the divisional toll to 14.

Barisal Divisional Health Director Shyamal Krishna Mondal on Friday said the duo died on Thursday afternoon.

In the 24-hour span, 110 patients showing symptoms went to different hospitals, with 65 of them being hospitalised.

One of the children is 2-year-old Sadia, identified by a single name, a resident of Muladi Upazila.

The other has been identified only as Rakib, aged just 9 months, hailing from Banaripara Upazila.

Shyamal said, "Sadia and Rakib were hospitalised on Wednesday and died on Thursday afternoon.

“With the latest deaths, the toll resulting from measles symptoms in Barisal Division has reached 14."

According to the official estimate, Barishal Division has reported 1,190 suspected measles cases since Jan 1.

Of them, 892 patients were admitted to different hospitals before 57 tested positive for the viral disease.

Hospitals around the district have discharged 690 patients amid the outbreak.
