Kumarika Save the Nature has partnered with Mission Green Bangladesh’s Vangari Mama Project to launch a sustainability initiative to encourage young people to take steps towards a greener future.

Participants were invited to bring five empty plastic bottles to exchange for a sapling and a gift from Kumarika.

“By turning a simple act into a rewarding experience, the initiative encouraged students to actively participate in protecting the environment,” according to a press release from mPower Social Enterprises Limited.

The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness while reducing plastic waste.

The campaign was held on Jun 21 at Rokeya Hall and the TSC area of the Dhaka University campus, on Jun 22 at the Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic Institute and on Jul 5 at the Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Bangamata Hall gates of Dhaka University.

More than 1,400 students took part across the three days, collecting over 7,000 single-use plastic bottles, which were handed over to Mission Green Bangladesh for responsible recycling, the press release said.

More than 1,400 saplings were distributed across the participants. The initiative reached over 500,000 people through field-level and digital engagement, mPower said.

Kumarika is a brand of the Hemas Group and carries out nature-oriented commitments and activities through the Save the Nature initiative.

“Kumarika remains committed to inspiring more people to care for nature; because every meaningful change begins with a small, conscious step,” the press release said.
