Content creator Tawhid Afridi has secured bail in a fraud and criminal breach of trust case filed with Wari Police Station.
His lawyer says there are now “no legal obstacles” to his release.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam granted bail on Tuesday, after hearing a petition filed by Afridi's lawyer Iqbal Mahmud Sovon.
Shovon said Afridi had been facing three cases. He had already obtained bail from the High Court in two of them, while the latest order cleared the last remaining hurdle to his release.
Afridi, the son of MyTV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Barishal on Aug 24 last year.
He was later shown arrested in several cases.
On Jun 11, Wari Police Sub-Inspector Md Mahfuzur Rahman, the investigating officer, sought permission to show Afridi arrested in this case. The court approved the request on Jun 15.
According to the case documents, Syeda Ashfah Toaha Dyuti received a freelance job offer via WhatsApp on Jan 13 last year from a woman identifying herself as Fatema Oishi.
She was asked to post Google reviews before being instructed to open a Telegram account.
The following day, she received Tk 300 for completing the work.
A person identifying herself only as Lisa later added her to a Telegram group where members regularly shared screenshots showing returns on money they had transferred.
Encouraged by those posts, Dyuti first sent Tk 2,000 to Lisa's bKash account and later received Tk 2,800, including the promised profit.
On Jan 15, she was paid another Tk 5,300 before being invited to join another Telegram group to learn more tasks.
Investigators say the suspects gradually gained her trust before defrauding her of a total of Tk 235,000.
Following the incident, Dyuti filed a case with Wari Police in January last year against unidentified suspects.
Earlier, police arrested Afridi's father Nasir in Gulshan on Aug 17 last year. He was later questioned in police custody.
