Footballer Jorginho slams Chappell Roan after security encounter leaves daughter 'in tears'

Former Chelsea and Arsenal star Jorginho has accused singer Chappell Roan’s security team of reducing his 11-year-old daughter to tears during an encounter at a hotel in Brazil's Sao Paulo.

In a post on Instagram, the Flamengo midfielder said the incident happened on Saturday while his family were staying at the same hotel as the US pop star ahead of her headline performance at Lollapalooza Brazil.

According to the New York Post, Jorginho said his daughter had been excited to see the singer and had made a sign for the 28-year-old performer earlier in the day.

The midfielder, who currently plays for Brazilian giants Flamengo, said that during breakfast, Roan passed their table and his daughter briefly walked by to check whether it was really her before returning to sit with her mother.

Jorginho said his daughter did not speak to the singer or ask for anything, but alleged that a member of Roan’s security team then approached and accused the family of allowing the child to “disrespect” and “harass” the singer.

The former Italy international said the confrontation left his daughter “extremely shaken” and in tears.

“I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” he wrote, according to the New York Post.

He also said the security guard threatened to report the family to hotel management.

Jorginho, who has played much of his career in top-level football and is used to public attention, said he understood the need for personal boundaries but believed the response in this case was excessive.

He described the episode as “sad”, saying his daughter had only been admiring someone she recognised.

The New York Post noted that Roan has previously spoken publicly about setting firm boundaries with fans and paparazzi, and has criticised what she described as “predatory” behaviour.

The singer has also said she does not owe strangers “a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention” simply because they admire her.

Jorginho said he hoped the incident would prompt reflection, adding that no child should have to go through such an experience.

The New York Post also reported that the unidentified child appeared to be Ada Law, the daughter of Jorginho’s wife Catherine Harding and actor Jude Law.
