RS Fahim Chowdhury, a content creator who was apprehended by a “mob” outside the Mirpur National Zoo, has been sent to jail over alleged involvement in a murder linked to the July Uprising.
Fahim was presented before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam on Monday in a case filed with Gulshan Police, according to state counsel Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman.
With the investigation officer on leave, the Gulshan Police chief took Fahim to court, which set Tuesday for his bail hearing.
“The defence lawyers initially requested bail for Fahim, but the state was prepared to oppose it,” Suman said.
The defence then informed the court that they would formally pursue the bail petition on Tuesday.
Following the public action on Sunday, Fahim was handed over to police and “shown arrested” in connection with a killing on Jul 19, 2024.
The case stems from a protest in Shahajadpur, where students and members of the public had marched.
According to the complaint, police, alongside leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates, reportedly opened fire on the protesters.
Md Imran, 30, succumbed to bullet injuries in a local hospital later that evening.
