Education minister’s PS gets additional charge as DSHE chief

The promotion empowers him with “financial authority” and he will hold the position until a regular appointment

The government has appointed Prof Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel as the director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).

Through the appointment on Thursday, Sohel will now handle additional responsibilities alongside serving as the personal secretary to Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

He had been hired as the directorate’s director (secondary education).

The promotion empowers him with “financial authority”, and he will serve as the DSHE chief until a regular appointment is made to the post.

On Apr 13, Prof BM Abdul Hannan, who was holding the additional charge of DG, was made an officer on special duty.

He was also serving as the director of the DSHE’s college and administration wing.

Prof Hannan was assigned the extra role after the last DG, Prof Muhammad Azad Khan, stepped down citing “health issues” in October last year.
