The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has formed a committee to recommend candidates for the appointment of assistant teachers in government primary schools.

The development was announced in a notification issued by the ministry on Sunday.

The eight-member body, chaired by Directorate of Primary Education chief Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman, has been established in line with the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules 2025, issued on Aug 28.

The rules specified that a central committee would be constituted to recommend candidates and prepare separate merit lists for each Upazila or Thana.

Under the new rules, 93 percent of assistant teacher posts will be filled on merit, with 20 percent reserved for science graduates and 80 percent for graduates from other subjects. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with no third-class results in any public examination.

The provisions also extend to assistant teacher positions in physical education and music, while raising the maximum recruitment age to 32.
