Schools, colleges to reopen Sunday after month-long Eid break

Educational institutions have been closed since mid-February

Primary and secondary schools, colleges, and madrasas across Bangladesh are set to resume academic activities on Sunday following the conclusion of the Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

Classroom activities will restart across all tiers of the education system after a month-long hiatus that began in mid-February.

"We are resuming classes from Sunday and all necessary preparations have been completed," said Shahinur Al-Amin, an assistant teacher at Charigram Government Primary School in Keraniganj.

To compensate for the loss of academic days during the month of Ramadan, the Directorate of Primary Education has directed all government primary schools to remain open for the next 10 consecutive Saturdays.

The reopening follows a period of administrative adjustments regarding the holiday calendar.

Initially, schools were scheduled to begin their break on Mar 8.

Following the swearing in of the new government after the general election, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education revised the schedule.

On Feb 18, the authorities decided to keep secondary and primary institutions closed for the entire month of Ramadan.

Colleges have been closed since Feb 18, primary and high schools since Feb 19, and madrasas since Feb 11.

The formal holiday for most institutions ended on Thursday, Mar 26. After the two-day weekend on Friday and Saturday, students will return to their desks on Mar 29.
