Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A NMEhsanul Hoque Milon has said physical and mental health as well as arts education will become compulsory for all students.

He made the remarks on Tuesday at an exchange meeting with officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), stressing the need to make textbooks more time-appropriate.

“Textbooks must be revised. Physical and mental health and arts education will be made mandatory for all,” the minister said.

He also said assessment examinations would be introduced in these subjects.

A ministry media statement confirmed that the curriculum will be overhauled by “high-level” experts.

The minister said the selection of these experts would remain non-partisan.

The meeting was presided over by NCTB Chairman (additional charge) Md Mahbubul Haque Patwary.

The minister’s private secretary Prof Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel and officials from different wings of the board were also present.
