HSC exams suspended over floods will restart Jul 27, says Minister Milon

The revised timetable will cover candidates under the Chattogram board in five affected districts

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams suspended because of flooding in five districts under the Chattogram education board have been rescheduled to resume from Jul 27.

A revised timetable for the postponed papers in Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Rangamati and Cox's Bazar will be announced after the previously scheduled examinations conclude.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced the decision on Thursday while speaking at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha.

Adverse weather and flooding have kept HSC, Alim, HSC Vocational, BMT and Diploma in Commerce exams suspended in the five districts since Jul 8.

Authorities later announced another suspension on Jul 16.

The flooding, heavy rain and waterlogging also triggered demands to postpone exams in other parts of Bangladesh beyond the Chattogram board.

On Jul 14, protesters blocked roads in Dhaka and elsewhere, demanding that exams be deferred nationwide.

Some demonstrators also attempted to enter the parliament grounds, where they were dispersed by police using batons.

The protests also included calls for Minister Milon's resignation.

The government, however, decided to continue the tests under all other education boards while keeping only those under the Chattogram board suspended.
